How to make my dvr stop idling?

You know, after a while of not hitting any buttons, your dvr system will stop playing tv and a direct tv symbol will pop up instead.
How can i turn this off?
Yes, its like a screen saver.
Only that i can’t find the option to change anything about in the menu still, and it will do it while watching live tv.

I hate having to use the digital converter boxes?

from the cable company. If we get new tvs with digital tuners, and we no longer have need for the boxes, can I go back to using our VCRs the way we did with basic cable? Right now we can’t tape one show while watching another on the same tv, because of the cable box. The cable company would really rather us rent a DVR system of course, but I think we already pay them too much as it is.

Setting up and IP based camera without a PC.?

I have 2 cameras and a dvr system. The dvr is connected to my router and is able to broadcast when my Pc is connected. But when I want to view them away from home i cannot see them. I have tried setting up the IP as a static and I have a DNS address. Any help would be great.

Uverse DVR acting strange?

Everytime I try to change the channel it just says "The DVR system is working. Please try again." (and yes, it says that it IS working, not "isnt working").

Ive restarted the dvr box a few times… still does the same thing. Also, all the shows that ive recorded are not there and it wont record new/upcoming things that I pick.

Home Security DVR problems?

After my new house was burglarized a week before I got married, I purchased a 4ch DVR with hard drive system from eBay. It was installed about 8 months ago. Now the DVR unit will not respond to the remote no matter how many different batteries I put in it. It also does not respond to the buttons I push on the front of it. Its behavior is erratic. When I was messing with it this morning, I only got it to respond to two buttons to change the camera views–to Camera 1 and Quad, but the reaction time was delayed. I cannot make it play back. The unit does not have a brand name and the manual has been poorly translated from some Asian language and is at most times indecipherable.

So what do I do about the DVR system? Is there a way to make it play back with the computer? Is there a way to fix it?

If I need to buy a new DVR unit, what do I need to know? I know the cameras have a typical CCTV video connector and I will need a 500 gb harddrive…but do these things come together? Can I use any other security camera DVR system? This time I want to buy one that has a brand name, so can I still use the cameras I have?

They are telling me that I do. That since the dvr system was purchased thru a lease program thru direct tv once I hooked up the device i took over that lease agreement. Is this true?

I’m in a ghost hunting group and im having trouble finding a good wireless audio transmitter and reciever system. We dont currently own a DVR system, but I would prefer a system that I can record straight to a program like audacity on my laptop.

I found SEVERAL DVR systems, including TiVo and some from DirectTV, and the local goodwill. I know TiVo is subscription based and direct tv ones probably wont work, but here’s my question:

If I find a standard DVR system (maybe even one from comcast), can I hook it up and use it with my existing comcast service? I don’t want to lease one from comcast But I would like to be able to record shows and what not.

This is what I was planning on doing. Have a coax cable coming from the wall to the existing comcast set top box (Motorola for HiDef tv’s). Have a coax cable from the set-top box to the DVR and from the DVR to the TV. Then have the RCA cables going accordingly. Would this *in theory* work? Would I need other equipment? DETAILS PLEASE!

I would follow the instructions from this site: http://www.ehow.com/how_2075835_hook-up-dvr.html

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
